Polyps are small, fleshy pieces of tissue, usually benign, but occasionally may contain cancerous areas. The cause of Cervical Polyps is unknown.
Usually none
May occasionally cause vaginal discharge or bleeding
Visually seen by the doctor during a speculum pelvic exam (a PAP smear and endometrial biopsy should also be performed in the case of bleeding, to rule out more serious causes)
Polyps are generally removed by the doctor in his office, without complications. Sometimes a surgical D & C procedure may be required.
