Caput

  • Caput succedaneum occurs when the scalp is swollen and discolored following vaginal delivery.

  • Scalp swelling on the initial portion of the head during vaginal delivery.  The swelling  may cross the midline
  • Bluish, discoloration of scalp

  • It is caused by mechanical injury of the head during delivery.

  • It usually requires no treatment.

  • None: It heals spontaneously.

  • Swelling will spontaneously reduce within 48-72 hours.
